A senior officer who jumped to the help of a colleague that got attacked by a knife attacker has been awarded the Royal Recognition for Valor.
Sgt Tim Ansell grappled with twenty-seven-year-old Jacob Brown following he held a blade to the neck of his fellow officer Sergeant Marc Foster.
Brown initiated the assault as the law enforcement personnel and their third officer, Police Constable Marcus Wolstencroft, were conversing to a motorist subsequent to a traffic accident in the area in July 2023.
Brown knifed and cut both Sergeant Ansell and Sgt Foster prior to PC Wolstencroft incapacitated him with a electric weapon.
"Policeman attacked," the constable stated over his communication device.
Bodyworn and dashcam footage released by the force showed Brown, who was dressed in dark clothing with a head covered, run up to Sgt Foster from the rear with a knife outstretched.
He struck the policeman who tripped and fell to the street, before Sgt Ansell jumped in and tried to wrestle him to the floor even though being continually attacked with the blade.
PC Wolstencroft pulled his stun gun and awaited a open target, ending the fight to an conclusion.
Sergeant Ansell was heard stating: "Can I get help on my throat here, I've been stabbed in the neck."
Sgt Ansell suffered multiple lacerations to his throat and additional injuries to his arms and body, whereas Sgt Foster received cut injuries.
Officials said Sgt Foster employed his hands to stop his colleague's hemorrhaging prior to emergency responders arrived.
The new honor arrives subsequent to the trio of policemen were granted internal Valor Recognitions in fall 2023 and the John Egerton Bravery Award from the local Police Federation in early 2024.
They were also awarded a Area Valor Recognition in mid-2024.
"The efforts of all three officers in the end protected each other and meant no members of the public experienced any harm."
Brown received a sentence to an secure medical confinement in early 2024, as stated by officials.
